The Joy of Rest

Genesis 2:3

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Exodus 8:20
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The bible study I'm currently doing is The Abundant Marriage: Stewardship. This past week's lesson was titled - If we only had a little more.

Do you struggle with this? I'll be the first to admit it, I certainly do.

Not enough time
Not enough money
Not enough sleep
Not enough conversation with your spouse
Not enough opportunities to have fun with family....

One of the questions in this week's lesson was:

How might your not enoughs and if onlys change if you were to make (and keep) an appointment with God every day? I have the Sunday School answer ready, as I'm sure you do also....but do I really, truly believe it? Upon reflection, I decided that I do believe it based on personal experience.

So, all this to say - Do you have a DAY during the week that is set apart? I do not. All my days are pretty much the same, with few variations. It is difficult for me to take a COMPLETE DAY to rest and honor God, but why? I know that when I honor the sabbath, I am reminded that my time is not mine to do with what I please, but God's.

P.S.
I forgot to weigh in yesterday am...and then forgot again today.
P.S.S.
I got a haircut today....when you're a chub, you have to have cute hair. Wanna see? I'll even include my double chin, as an added bonus!

A Lazy Day....

until 6pm....

I spent the day in my pj's. I watched Extreme Home Makeover with Hannah and then spent the rest of the afternoon on the computer, while talking to Melissa. Melissa and I challenged each other to do as much as we could this evening, starting at 6pm.
Here's my list - loaded dishwasher...cooked dinner...ate dinner with Hannah (Michael was doing some computer work and Jacob spent the night at a friend's)...hung up clothes in my closet...gathered clothes from my closet to give to Goodwill...cleaned the toilet and sink in the kid's bathroom...rearranged my birthday roses...totally cleaned the kitchen (I even wiped down the cabinets and cleaned out the pull out garbage slider)...made brownies...2 loads of laundry...organized the paperwork on my desk...downloaded some digital scrapbooking items...
Phew....typing it makes it look like a lot...but it really didn't take me that long to accomplish many things.

Weigh Wednesday

remember that?

I tried to forget, apparently. Josh's Wednesday Weigh-in club has renewed my motivation.

So, all that to say.....I'm still fat and I still know it.

This morning I weighed in at 256.5
I'm not at all pleased with this weight, but who would be. It is hard typing the actual number considering I started Weigh Wednesday last summer 2 pounds lighter.

URGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in a mansion compared to this.....

I was surfing some of the blogs in my favorites and came across this post.

I don't think I'll be saying I live in a small house. My house seems very spacious compared to this.....

You can see other pictures of this small house here.

What do you think?

A Birthday Week

This week we celebrated Michael's birthday and my birthday...a week of cakes and goodies, not great for the weight.

Even though we were at Michael's dad's for his birthday, we celebrated again on Monday. The kids and I had present for him that we didn't want to take with us (it was a cast iron propane double burner for camping), so I made a baked pizza pasta dinner and bought a fudge cake from Publix. He was pleasantly surprised when he came home from work. I used my new red charger plates even though I didn't have time to iron a tablecloth for the table. It was lovely and he certainly didn't notice the difference.

In between Michael's birthday and mine the week was pretty uneventful. I worked Tuesday through Friday and tried to get back into the normal routine. However, on Wednesday night at my weekly bible study/accountable group I was surprised with a cheesecake with a shortbread crust. It was very yummy - I've never had one with a shortbread crust.

On Friday morning my friend Yolanda called and we made plans to go out for my birthday lunch. I was so glad she called - I was beginning to feel sorry for myself. Michael had to work, my mom had to work, the kids were in school.....you get the picture. Anyway, I chose Mosiaks, a fru-fru restaurant near my office. After lunch I went back to the office and was typing away when a co-worker said my name - to which I turned around to everyone in the office standing outside my office with a birthday serenade and freshly baked cookies.

When I got home I was again surprised...Michael's truck was in driveway. I walked inside to find a clean dining room table and kitchen (the rest of the house was already clean...well, it was picked up). There was a vase filled with roses, already arranged, on the dining table and another smaller vase with flowers on the coffee table. Before going to dinner I opened my presents from Michael and the kids. I got a new memory card for my camera, a very convenient USB card reader, a Vera Bradley checkbook cover and a coin case. We then went to Red Lobster for dinner - yum, yum!

Today, when we got home from church, my mom's car was in the driveway. She had the table decorated and lunch ready. She decorated with helium balloons and even confetti! It was fun. After lunch Michael and I opened our presents (I got a smidgen, pinch and dash measuring spoons, a candle and a gift card to Bath & Body Works). My mom spent the afternoon with us, just hanging out.

It was a fun week! What did you do this week?

A trip with friends

We went to Orlando and did a whirlwind tour of the city on a shoestring budget. If you know us, you know we vacation by listening to timeshare presentations. We have gone on some great vacations for cheap. This time was no different and we took along some dear friends.

We arrived in Orlando on Wednesday and were welcomed by lots and lots of traffic! We stayed downtown at the Sheraton, which was very nice but was a little far from the attractions....not that I'm complaining. On Wednesday night we found a Perkins for dinner - we don't have one here and for some reason I love their burgers. We had a wonderful waitress from Boston who gave us great service....4 adults and 5 kids....you need great service. There we purchased some big muffins for breakfast the following day. We had adjoining rooms and were able to put the little kids to bed early in one room so we could stay up later in the other room to talk, watch tv and play cards.

On Thursday morning we went to our timeshare presentation and then found a wonderful coupon for free kids meals at McDonald's....the huge McDonald's on International Dr. It was free entertainment and free meals for the kids! After lunch we went to the Fashion Mall to M&M World. It was sooooooo neat to see all the colors of M&Ms. We actually spent a while there while the kids ooo'ed and ahh'ed and while Michael, Eric and Jacob threw a toy football in the back of the store. There was even the M&M Nascar in the store. After M&M World we went to Outdoor World and spent a few hours. The boys shot targets and chipped a few golf balls. The little kids looked at the fish in the huge aquamarine. The adults walked around the store looking at all the interesting items....there was Elk Jerky there! We did not make a single purchase, but had a fun time. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Taco Bell to get dinner for the kids. After dropping the big and little kids off at the hotel, Eric, Melissa, Michael and I went to Uno's Pizza for dinner. We had a wonderful meal with even more wonderful fellowship with dear friends.

On Friday, after stopping at Publix for snacks to take into the park, we arrived at Universal's Islands of Adventure. We spent the day riding rides and seeing the attractions. Michael's brothers met us at the park. For dinner we met Michael's dad (he works for Universal) for lunch/dinner. My favorite ride at the park is still Spiderman....everyone but Emily rode Spiderman and loved it. Since we ate a late lunch/early dinner, I suggested we go to Friendly's for dessert - and what a splendid idea it was. We all enjoyed our dinner/dessert of ice cream sundaes!

On Saturday morning we drove over to Ft. Wilderness and parked our vans. We rode the bus to the back of the campground and saw Cinderella's horses. The kids played on a wonderful playground while Melissa and I watched a nearby porch on rocking chairs. We then walked down to the water where Eric, Michael and Jacob were playing tether ball. The little kids played at the water's edge. It was a relaxing afternoon. We then rode the bus to Downtown Disney and at lunch at Earl of Sandwich - great sandwiches for great prices. We then walked around Downtown Disney and spent hours at Legoland....which worked out great considering it rained for awhile. The kids bought souvenirs and we got a treat at Ghirardelli's. We caught the bus back to Ft. Wilderness and parted ways.

On our way to Michael's dad's we stopped at IKEA so I could go in. My friend, Johnna, has raved and raved about the store and I had to see for myself. I could have spent hours and hours in the store, but only had an hour before the store closed. I bought a magnetic knife holder for my kitchen. Hannah and Jacob got hanging mesh holders for random items in the closet. And we bought a rolling desk for Hannah.

On Sunday we celebrated Michael's birthday with his family. Christy came over from the east coast and Jamie and his family joined us as well. Mark grilled burgers and brats.
Hannah and Jacob were a HUGE help with the Botley kids. It was really neat to see Hannah and Jacob help Melissa and Eric with their children.

Now....back to reality - school and work tomorrow.

2008 is going to be great....
It's the year I'm going to lose weight!
